Sounds strange doesn’t it but in some areas of life there is not such thing as bad news being bad for business. Think about celebrities, film makers and such like – even bad news is good – they are being remembered – people are noticing them again – they are back in business – even when a film is bad, make enough noise about it and people flock to see it just to confirm it is bad!! Which of course makes the film a resounding success financially.
Now I am not saying that we need bad advertising, I am merely looking at the differences in our world and how in some areas it is acceptable and yet in others it can bring your business down about your feet.
Finding good advertising is also not always easy, do we look for quality or quantity, do we limit where we advertise in the hope of catching only particular ‘targeted’ traffic. Again this is dependent upon what you are selling. If you are selling expensive underwear you need to advertise everywhere. I have never met a woman yet who could resist buying fabulous underwear, no matter the expense, it might not be a daily purchase but how many women are there in the world. If however you are selling very, very exclusive yachts, then you will be looking at targeted markets, luxury magazines, luxury websites etc. Having said that even those people with money tend to ‘shop’ around and will not only look at these purpose built websites and magazines but will venture out into the vast open possibilities of the internet.
So in effect, all advertising is good, from free ads, cheap ads and very expensive, you just need to decide if and where results are coming in and use those avenues, testing with others alongside, gradually building your advertising campaign up to be cost effective and ‘targeted’ when possible.
For the majority of people in business good news is good advertising, word of mouth is paramount for success so put the word out there, and keep giving the very best service that you can to your customers.
